North Spokane BMX rider
Because i believe that this new skatepark will contribute to the
development of Northern Spokane and anyone else who Bikes,Skates,Skateboards
and whatever else.
Brooke Plastino / Hillyard Neighborhood Council
The neighborhood council membership works to address issues within
the Greater Hillyard community. We act as liaison between the
community and the various branches of city government.
A recurring issue in our community is the complaint, "There
isn't anything for young people to do in Hillyard". So, when
the concept of Skateboard Park project was offered to our community
we jumped at the opportunity. Here was a way to bring a state-of-the-art
skateboard facility into the neighborhood.
It could serve the dual purpose by providing "something
to do" for our youth while giving a boost to the economic
redevelopment of our community. The Skateboard Park will bring
an influx of people from Spokane and beyond to Hillyard. It will
provide an increased consumer base for existing businesses and
opportunities for creating new businesses. Businesses that cater
to the wants, needs and interests of the youthful clientele the
Skateboard Park is expected to appeal to.
A third and equally important benefit is to provide a source
of pride for the young people in Hillyard and encourage their
participation in one of the many civic organizations that helped
bring this Skateboard Park to our community. We realize the Hillyard
of the future we are trying to create will, or will not be lived
in by the youth of today. Their participation and input into what
that future will look like is necessary if we are to build a community
in which they will wish to live, work and raise families in.
